I missed the memo.

Yesterday, I did not have my cell phone on me. Normally this isn't a big deal except that R wanted me to call him at a specific time.... 6pm.

I managed to find a pay phone at precisely 6:55pm. (I use my cell phone as a watch)

I inserted my quarter and waited.

Phone: "Credit. 25 cents"

I waited.

Phone: "Credit. 25 cents"

My eyes focused on the instructions as I waited.

"local call: 50 cents"

Phone: "Credit. 25 cents"

Heh?

Did you know this? I didn't know this. Since WHEN did Bell decide that a local call needed to be 50 cents? If someone came up to me on the street and said, "Can I have two quarters? I need to make a call. It's an emergency." I would have laughed in his face.

But it's true.
